This year’s Valero Alamo Bowl features the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Colorado Buffaloes. The Cowboys are coming off a loss in the Big 12 title game to their in-state rival Oklahoma Sooners. The Buffaloes are coming off a loss in the Pac-12 championship game to the Washington Huskies.
In last year’s Alamo Bowl, TCU overcame a 31-0 halftime deficit to defeat Oregon in triple overtime, 38-31. While this year’s game probably won’t live up to that, it still has the makings of a great game.
Alamo Bowl Preview: Oklahoma State vs Colorado
Oklahoma State had one of the best seasons of any team in the FBS this season. Despite faltering early in the season to a controversial call against Central Michigan, they battled back and only suffered a loss to Baylor in Big 12 play, before the game against Oklahoma.
Quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington have been a tremendous duo. Leading their team to a 10-3 record in the regular season.
Rudolph has thrown for 3,777 yards and 25 touchdowns, on only four interceptions. Washington caught 1,209 of those yards along with nine touchdowns.
However, Colorado isn’t a team to overlook either. They have played very tough football this season. They have given teams such as Michigan and USC a run for their money. While holding Christian McCaffery and Stanford to just five points in their meeting as well.
The Buffaloes defense has forced 19 fumbles and sacked quarterbacks 35 times. Certainly, a battle to look out for will be the Oklahoma State offensive line against the stout Colorado defensive line. Mason Rudolph needs good protection to make plays against Colorado. Colorado’s defense has been consistent all season and really taken it to their opponents. The one time they happened to falter was against Washington in the Pac-12 championship game.
Considering how explosive Oklahoma State’s offense is, could this be another case where Colorado’s defense isn’t up to the task? Or could The Cowboys finally meet their match and be stifled into defeat.
These two teams are totally set for an epic showdown on Saturday, in San Antonio, Texas.
