Once again big losses at the top continue in College Football. This time it’s four teams in one week. The Washington Huskies, Washington State Cougars, Clemson Tigers and Auburn Tigers all went down. Leaving a huge vacancy in the Top 10. While also trickling down to places across the board. Not to mention, the previously undefeated San Diego State Aztecs went down to the Boise State Broncos, creating unrest at the bottom as well. Giving the chance for teams like Memphis and LSU to re-enter the fray again. All that combined, makes for another crazy week for College Football Top 25 polls everywhere.

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (seven first place votes)

Record: 7-0 (4-0, 1st in SEC West)

The Alabama Crimson Tide followed up a tough victory last week, with a easy looking win over the Arkansas Razorbacks. From the first offensive play (a 75 yard touchdown run,) Alabama kept this game from being in doubt. The running game in particular has been huge for them this season. #2 Penn State Nittany Lions

Record: 6-0 (3-0, 1st in Big Ten East)

The Penn State Nittany Lions were off this week. They have a huge Big Ten East showdown with the Michigan Wolverines next Saturday night in primetime at Happy Valley. – Harry Broadhurst

#3 Georgia Bulldogs

Record: 7-0 (4-0, 1st in SEC East)

Last Week: 5

At one point in the second quarter the Bulldogs were tied with Missouri 21 -21. They then turned on the gas and didn’t look back racking up a game total of 696 yards (370 on the ground) in beating Missouri 53-28. The Bulldogs look very impressive at this point in the season. #4 TCU Horned Frogs

Record: 6-0 (3-0, 1st in Big 12)

Last Week: 7

The TCU Horned Frogs once again earned themselves another victory against conference rival Kansas State. This was not an overly dominant win offensively for TCU. However, it was for the defense, which held Kansas State to only six points, 216 yards of total offense, and forced a turnover too. Kenny Hill continues to be a dual threat both through the air throwing for 297 yards, and on the ground running in a touchdown too. – Gary Vaughan

#5 Ohio State Buckeyes

Record: 5-1 (3-0, 1st in Big Ten East)

Last Week: 9

Whoever thought this was a marquee match-up was very wrong. The Buckeyes rolled the Nebraska Cornhuskers 56-14. 325 passing yards and seven TD’s (give through the air, and two on the ground) for J.T. Barrett led the way, as the Buckeyes went to Lincoln and had the game put away by halftime. – Harry Broadhurst

#6 Wisconsin Badgers

Record: 6-0 (3-0, 1st in Big Ten West)

A bend, but don’t break Purdue Boilermakers defense kept their team in the game. However, an even better Wisconsin Badgers defense held Purdue to nine points, and helped them pick up the victory. Jonathan Taylor had 219 yards rushing and Alex Hornibrook threw a TD pass as well. – Harry Broadhurst

#7 Clemson Tigers

Record: 6-1 (4-1, 2nd in ACC Atlantic)

How the mighty have fallen. Yes, the Syracuse Orange have been a game team after nearly knocking off the LSU Tigers two weeks ago. However, they’re still a .500 team. With a knocked out Kelly Bryant, the Tigers struggled on both sides of the ball. Although, Eric Dungey kept churning, throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns. Leading to the eventual game-winning drive to put a dent into Clemson’s repeat hopes. The Tigers did lose to Pitt last year and still won it all. But it’s a tougher road this year going into their final three ACC games of the season, which include an ACC Atlanta leading North Carolina State Wolfpack in the way. – Erik Watkins

#8 Miami Hurricanes

Record: 5-0 (3-0, 1st in ACC Coastal)

Last Week: 10

In a season of apparent miracles, the Miami Hurricanes do it yet again. Despite not handling the option through three quarters, the Canes hung tough, only trailing 24-16. The fourth quarter was gut check time, and it started with a Travis Homer touchdown run and a failed two-point conversion. After that, Tech gained the last of their 226 rushing yards, and the Canes had one last drive. Darrell Langham became the hero yet again, catching a bouncing pass on 4th and 11 to help set up the Michael Badgley field goal to win the game and keep the perfect season alive – Erik Watkins

#9 Washington Huskies

Record: 6-1 (3-1, 2nd in Pac-12 North)

Last Week: 4

The Arizona State Sun Devils already upset the Oregon Ducks this season. So, playing Washington at home wasn’t that big a deal. Their defense certainly played like it. They held Jake Browning to 139 yards passing, Myles Gaskin to 67 yards rushing and the entire offense went scoreless until under six minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Arizona State got up to a 13-0 by halftime, but it was a bold fourth down decision that sealed the game. With their loss, and compounded by the play of the rest of the Pac-12, the entire conference’s chances at a playoff slot are extremely slim. – Sean Garmer

#10 USC Trojans

Record: 6-1 (4-1, 1st in Pac-12 South)

Last Week: 12

Once again the USC Trojans play a close game, and escape with a win. The Utah Utes finally responded, after USC scored 21 unanswered points in the second half. However, instead of going for the tie and overtime, Utah went for the two point conversion. The USC defense held strong and the Trojans outlasted Utah for the one point victory. Much credit should be given to Sam Darnold who after giving up a fumble return TD, rallied his team with 352 yards passing and three touchdowns. Thus keeping USC on top of the Pac-12 South. – Sean Garmer

#11 Oklahoma Sooners

Record: 5-1 (2-1, 2nd in Big 12)

The Oklahoma Sooners found themselves in a high stakes matchup against hated rival the Texas Longhorns. Like most Red River Showdowns, this one did not disappoint. Oklahoma jumped on Texas with a 20 point lead in the first half. Texas came back to take a late lead in the 4th quarter, but Baker Mayfield connected with Mark Andrews for a 59 yard touchdown pass to capture the win. The Sooners were up against the wall and pushed through a hard fought game to earn an important win. – Gary Vaughan

#12 South Florida Bulls

Record: 6-0 (3-0, 1st in American East)

Last Week: 15

The South Florida Bulls win their 11th straight, with another blowout victory. This time over American Conference foe the Cincinnati Bearcats. It was Quinton Flowers on the ground and through the air on offense. While the defense returned an interception 65 yards for a score. Plus, holding Cincinnati to only three points the whole game too. – Sean Garmer

#13 Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Oklahoma State Cowboys rocked the hapless Baylor Bears Saturday. The usual characters put on a show in their blowout win. Mason Rudolph had over 400 yards passing with a trio of touchdowns through the air. Justice Hill was a force on the ground, as much as James Washington through the air. In total, Oklahoma State lit up Baylor for 747 yards of total offense to get another Big XII victory. – Gary Vaughan

#14 Michigan Wolverines

Record: 5-1 (2-1, 4th in Big Ten East)

The Wolverines went on the road to Bloomington and held off a determined Indiana Hoosiers team in overtime. Indiana tied the game at the end of regulation, but couldn’t answer Karan Higdon‘s third score of the game, as the Wolverines defense secured the victory. – Harry Broadhurst

#15 Virginia Tech Hokies

Record: 5-1 (1-1, 4th in ACC Coastal)

Virginia Tech’s week off could not have come at a better time. After an ACC-opening split, the Hokies will face both Carolina teams (first UNC, then Duke) before traveling to Miami Gardens to face a potentially top-10 ranked Hurricanes team itching for a division title. – Erik Watkins

#16 Washington State Cougars

Record: 6-1 (3-1, 2nd in Pac-12 North)

The California Golden Bears defense absolutely destroyed Luke Falk and the rest of the Cougars offense. A fumble recovery for a touchdown. Nine sacks. Five interceptions. Holding Washington State to only three points. Yes, this all happened. Creating numerous short fields and easy touchdowns for the Cal offense. After having several games where Cal played well, but not good enough. They finally demonstrate they are team you should take seriously. – Sean Garmer

#17 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

After a convincing win against North Carolina the previous week, Notre Dame enjoyed a week off. It came at a good time as well. Especially since they have two tough home tests in USC and NC State in the next few weeks. – Sean Garmer

#18 Auburn Tigers

Record: 5-2 (3-1, 2nd in SEC West)

Last Week: 11

The Auburn Tigers offense was held scoreless for the entire second half in a 23-27 loss to LSU. At one point in this game Auburn was ahead of LSU by 20 points. This is a rough loss for Auburn that now has some people calling for head coach Gus Malzahn’s job. It isn’t time for that yet, but Auburn has to be consistent on both offense and defense to be a factor in the SEC West. – Daniel Anderson

#19 North Carolina State Wolfpack

Record: 6-1 (4-0, 2nd in ACC Atlantic)

Nyheim Hines was the star of the show, scoring two touchdowns to end the first quarter. The first on an 83-yard run, the second being a 92-yard punt return. To their credit, the Pittsburgh Panthers fought back and kept the game within a touchdown through three quarters. The Wolfpack’s defense stiffened in the final frame, only allowing a field goal while scoring two touchdowns to improve to 4-0 in the ACC and starting rumors of a potential shock appearance in Charlotte. – Erik Watkins

#20 Central Florida Golden Knights

Record: 5-0 (3-0, 2nd in American East)

Last Week: 21

This certainly was a total team effort for the Central Florida Golden Knights. McKenzie Milton threw for 324 yards and touchdowns. The running backs combined for multiple scores. While the defense had an interception return for a TD. Plus, they also had a punt return for a TD too. All of this keeps UCF ranked and undefeated on the season. – Sean Garmer

#21 Michigan State Spartans

Record: 5-1 (3-0, 2nd in Big Ten East)

Last Week: 23

The Michigan State Spartans follow a win over Michigan last week, with a win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers this week. Spartans were led by running back LJ Scott who ran for 194 yards and a pair of scores. Gophers score twice with less than six minutes left to cut a 30-13 lead down to 30-27, but Spartans special teams recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the win. – Harry Broadhurst

#22 Stanford Cardinal

Record: 5-2 (4-1, 1st in Pac-12 North)

Bryce Love once again rushed for over 100 yards, 67 of those came on one touchdown run. While he also ran in for another five yard score. Keller Chryst threw three touchdowns as well. The whole offense put up 504 yards. While the Stanford defense held Oregon to only seven points. Thus staking Stanford to the top of the Pac-12 North. – Sean Garmer

#23 Virginia Cavaliers

Record: 5-1 (2-0, 2nd in ACC Coastal)

The Virginia Cavaliers make their best start since 2007, with this win over North Carolina. Kurt Benkert throws for 249 yards and two touchdowns. While Jordan Ellis runs for 136 yards. The defense helped out too, holding the Tarheels scoreless in the fourth quarter. With their schedule coming up, Virginia could certainly assert itself as a power in the Coastal division. – Sean Garmer

#24 LSU Tigers

Record: 5-2 (2-1, 4th in SEC West)

This time last week fans of LSU were calling for Ed Orgeron’s job. This week they are happy to have him as their head coach. Especially, since he led LSU to a 27-23 win over Auburn after being down 20 points at one point in the game. LSU has some weapons on offense (their defense has been consistently great), but they have to be consistent on offense before they can be considered a serious threat to Alabama in the SEC West. For this week the team can enjoy a huge win that might have actually saved their head coach’s job. – Daniel Anderson

#25 Memphis Tigers

Record: 5-1 (2-1, 2nd in American West)

Usually, it’s the offense for Memphis that pulls the team through. Riley Ferguson did throw 279 yards and three touchdowns. However, against the Navy Midshipmen, it was five turnovers forced by the Memphis defense, which got the team the win, in the end. – Sean Garmer
