I had no idea what to expect going into this review of Silence. I was pleasantly surprised to find an interesting game inside, which includes a terrific story that kept me engaged the whole way through.

Story
Silence is about two siblings (an older brother and a younger sister) who have to take shelter in a bunker. Where they live is being bombed, (why the hatch of the bunker points up to the sky is beyond me, that seems like it would not be safe, but I digress.) A bomb hits the bunker and the sister goes missing. Thus the brother most go find her in the land of Silence. I can’t really say much more without spoiling the plot.
Gameplay
Silence is actually a sequel to the game The Whispered World. I had not played Whispered World before playing Silence. However, I never felt lost as I played through the story. Silence is a point and click adventure similar to the ones in Telltale’s games. If you are a fan of those games, you should feel right at home with Silence.
The gameplay is beautiful and fairly straightforward. Albeit pretty linear as well. Mainly because it doesn’t give you the various story decisions that are present in the Telltale’s games. The story and what you do is set. This isn’t to say that’s bad, but it is something to consider when deciding to purchase the game.
Another thing to consider about Silence, is its length. The game does end up feeling somewhat short. Although, I personally felt what the game presented was satisfying for said length. Unfortunately, due to everything I’ve already mentioned, it is not very replayable. It doesn’t really give you much reason to play-through it again either.
Pros
Great story
Easy to pick up after leaving off
Plenty of hints to help out if you get stuck
Stunning Art
Cons
Game is a bit short
Not much replay value
Final Rating
Overall Thoughts 7.5 Out of 10 I know some people will knock this game because of the lack of various story paths, but I don’t hold that against it. The developers had a story they wanted to tell. They told it and presented it very well. I liken Silence to a movie. Once you watch it once, it’s up to you to decide if you want to watch it again. Even though nothing will change regardless. The art design is absolutely stunning and one of the biggest draws for the game. In the end, I had a great time with Silence. The story stuck with me. Ultimately, that’s all that really matters.
