Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin is the next head coach at Florida Atlantic University. FAU was the lone team in the state of Florida without a successful head coach. Now, it is quite possible that all five Florida schools are going to be scary good, very soon.

College Football: The Five Fearsome Florida Teams

The Florida State Seminoles have coach Jimbo Fisher leading them. Under coach Fisher, the Seminoles won the final BCS National Championship game and made it to the first ever College Football Playoff as well. In 2016, the Noles had some rough losses, but finished the year strong. Now, they are playing in the Orange Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines.

Fisher is a very successful coach and has shown that during his tenure at Florida State. He quite frankly may be the best coach in the entire state.

The Florida Gators have coach Jim McElwain. In his two seasons with Florida, they’ve won the SEC East title both times. If it weren’t for the Alabama Crimson Tide being the best team in the nation, coach McElwain would have two SEC Championships under his belt. This year at least, Florida has been rewarded with a place in the Outback Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Another New Coaching Hire at South Florida

The Miami Hurricanes got a huge coup when they signed Mark Richt as the head coach last off-season. The Canes had their highs and lows in Richt’s first season, but they finished the season very strong, winning their final four games by an average of 19 points per game. Pretty impressive for a team that plays in a very tough power five conference. Now, they await to play the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Quarterback Brad Kaaya had a career year under Richt, too. Players under Richt perform better than they do without him. Just ask former Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The South Florida Bulls just signed a great coach in Charlie Strong. The Bulls are coming off of a ten win season and now have someone at the helm who coached competitively in the Big 12. Adding Strong could be exactly what South Florida needs, to get into the national spotlight in the next few years.

Now with Kiffin as the coach of FAU, the Owls should become a better team offensively. Kiffin is an offense-minded coach. He could very well make the Owls into a top team in the Conference USA quickly.

Now that all of these great coaches are in the sunshine state, Florida College Football could be a national phenomenon in the coming years.
